DESCRIPTION:“Sanborn Insurance Maps\, Census Records and City Directories\,” by Ari Wilkins \nRecreating neighborhoods can provide rich and insightful details about an ancestor’s life and surroundings. This lecture will demonstrate ways to build a map using Sanborn Fire Insurance maps\, census records\, and city directories in Google Maps.\nAri Wilkins graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. \nShe has been actively researching family history since 1998. Ms. Wilkins has spoken nationally at the National Genealogical Society\, the Federation of Genealogical Societies\, the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research\, the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy\, the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research\, the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh\, the American Library Association\, RootsTech\, and a multitude of state and local societies. \nAri has been a Library Associate at Dallas Public Library since 2007. She speaks on a multitude of genealogical subjects and specializes in African American research. \nEvent requires registration. Members will receive an email with instructions for registering. DESCRIPTION:Menachem Kaiser with Plunder: A Memoir of Family Property and Nazi Treasure\nModerator: Dr. Bernice Lerner\, author and senior scholar at Boston University’s Center for Character and Social Responsibility\nPresented by the Wyner Family Jewish Heritage Center \nOn a Fulbright Fellowship in Lithuania in 2010\, Toronto native Menachem Kaiser traveled to Poland and there\, in the village of Sosnowiec\, he was inspired to take up his Holocaust-survivor grandfather’s former battle to reclaim the family’s apartment building. His encounters with long-time residents of the building and with a Polish lawyer known as “The Killer” are entwined with a surprise discovery of a cousin’s secret memoir revered by a band of Silesian treasure seekers who believe it is an indispensable guidebook to Nazi plunder.
