SUMMARY:NHSOG 2026 Hybrid Fall Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Murder\, Mysteries\, and Mayhem at the NHSOG 2026 Hybrid Fall Conference!\nFeaturing nationally-known genealogical author and speaker \nERIN E. MOULTON \nSaturday\, 3 October 2026\, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nPuritan Backroom Conference Center\, Manchester\, NH \n\n\n\n\n“The Mysterious A.A. Young”\nHave you struggled with finding your female ancestors? With a slim paper record and changing surnames\, women can be a challenge to plug into the family tree. Let’s spend some time exploring different strategies and resources that can help us unlock the stories of women gone by. We’ll consider research methods as we delve into the life of Mrs. A. A. Young\, founder of the Pythian Sisters. What was her name before marrying Mr. Rollins and then Mr. Young\, anyway? Let’s go back. Let’s find out. \n“Death of a Showman”\nWhat happens when the subject of your genealogical research joins the carnival\, moves across the country\, reappears six years younger\, marries a couple of times and then dies suddenly leaving a wave of confusion in his wake? \nSometimes\, the path of an ancestor can be long\, convoluted and confusing\, especially when you are limited to a small amount of evidence. When this happens\, tracking an ancestor from cradle to grave and completing exhaustive research across regions can help to complete the story and answer burning questions. Join us to track the life of one such subject. We’ll delve into vital records\, newspapers\, trade publications and more as we search for proof of identity. \n“Tracking True Crime”\nWhat happens when your family research turns into fodder for a true crime novel? Join us for a case study as we attempt to puzzle out the clues of one such story using family rumors\, old newspapers\, autopsy reports\, mug shots\, inmate records and more. \nContent Warning: This research is not suitable for all audiences.\n\n\n\nTickets are on sale today\, $70/in-person\, $40 remote. \nIn-person tickets include light breakfast and lunch. \nEarly Bird Discount for reservations made before September 15. \nTicket sales are strictly limited due to room capacity\, so order today to ensure a seat.

SUMMARY:ESOG - Webinar - The Art of Self-Editing for Genealogists w Pam Anderson
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Self-Editing for Genealogists\nPresented by Pam Anderson\, CG® \nProgram Description\n“The Art of Self-Editing for Genealogists” focuses on editing genealogical manuscripts. Elizabeth Shown Mills first wrote in Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian\, 1997\, “Effective source citation is an art\, not a science. No formula can cover all situations.” The same applies to the skill of self-editing\, which must be honed. This presentation begins with assessing our genealogical writing as a whole\, progressing to paragraph development and organization\, then to sentence structure\, and finally to word choice\, using Evidence Explained and The Chicago Manual of Style as our guides. \nAbout the Speaker\nPam Anderson\, CG®\, is the owner of Anderson CoGen in Franklin County\, Pennsylvania. She used her master’s degree in Speech Pathology until changing careers in 1991\, becoming owner of Anderson Construction until 2016. She began studying her family history in 2010\, went professional in 2014\, and obtained her CG credential in 2018. Pam mentored ProGen 47 in 2020-2021 and GenProof 95 in 2025 and has taught various courses on The Art of Self-Editing for Genealogists since 2023. Her articles have appeared in the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly\, National Genealogical Society Quarterly and Magazine\, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record\, Maryland Genealogical Society Journal\, and Utah Genealogical Society Crossroads. She won the National Genealogical Society’s 2025 Family History Writing Competition. \nAttendance Information\nThe Zoom room opens at 12:45 p.m. Eastern. A brief Society business meeting begins at 1:00 p.m.\, followed by the presentation and an open question-and-answer period. \nNonmembers who would like the Zoom link should email membership@esog.org.
